"You really believe soonjung manhwas are full of sentimental tears? How about our work then, it has battles and action in it."

Kara, who gained popularity among readers by adding action to their fantasy soonjung manhwa, are publishing the 5th volume of Mawang Ilgi this week. The focus of attention since they began their series in CAKE only 6 months after their debut, Kara state that this volume once again is "a soonjung manhwa and a fantasy at heart, with sonyun manhwa(=boys' manhwa)-like features added, for example the fights between demon lords".

The delicate strokes, the comical effects, the confrontation of demon and human, the pretty and kind demon lord: they all come over to the reader with incredible force - force, that is quite unusual for newcomer-manhwagas. Then there is also the unusal shrewdness of slightly implying a homosexual love between the demon lord and his subordinate. Kara say that listening to what teenage readers in online fan communities like "Mawang Cafe" have to say helps them get new ideas for their work.

"Girls don't like it when their beloved hero gets a female lover. But explicit homosexuality also isn't wanted. So instead of a lover who obviously flaunts his (homosexual) love, there is one whose love is sincere, but who doesn't make a show of it."

7 volumes are planned for Mawang Ilgi. Kara say that "as for now, the focus is on fantasy like Mawang Ilgi", but "the next will be less Western in its features, but have a more Asian feel to it."
